FernFest 2006 - Banquo will be there

Further to my earlier entry about applying to perform at the local Fernwood Village festival, I just spoke to the entertainment co-ordinator from the community centre. We've been offered a 40min set starting at 5:30pm on Sunday, June 11th.

He was quite impressed by our sound and thinks we will round out the day's eclectic mix of live music rather nicely. The fact we perform in medieval costume was a big seller for us (it generally is!). We're also getting an honorarium for doing this (we're one of only two acts who are getting one), so that's pretty cool. :)

Gammal og grå (Old and Grey)

I've recently been spending time in an online Norwegian music group and one of my new pals there transcribed the lyrics to this lovely tune for me. I've more or less figured out how to play the tune and now that I have the lyrics I can finish learning how to sing it. The song can be heard on Trispann's album, as well as the latest Triakel album. When time permits I'll do a rough translation. Apparently there may be a few spelling errors due to this particular Norwegian dialect, but how would I know the difference? :)

Gammal og grå

Gammal og grå, som neppe kan gå,
men ennda så ville han på pikane sjå.
Ser du du jenta mi grei, koffor sa du meg nei?
Kanskje var der en annan var likar enn meg.

Fillet ock fel, fraus mest i hel,
ennda så hadde han fire skilling tel ein p.
Fillet ock fel, fraus mest i hel,
ennda så ville hu ha'n likevel.

Gammal og grå, som neppe kan gå,
men ennda så ville han på pikane sjå.
Ser du du jenta mi grei, koffor sa du meg nei?
Kanskje var der en annan var likar enn meg.

It hurts when I do this

"Ow" is the word of the day around here. Yesterday's gardening was more exercise than I'm used to. My whole upper body aches!! It was also a fair strain on my arms, which is not good because of my tendon problems. I have to pace myself a lot better when I'm out there working so I that don't injure myself again.

Luckily our recording session tonight was cancelled, which is good as I don't think I would have been able to play very well. I'm just as happy to stay home, take a hot bath (again), and maybe watch a movie this evening.

Lovely day to dig

The iPod -- an essential gardening tool!

Progress in the garden!
It was another wonderful sunny day here (23°C); a great day to get outside and DIG. After several hours, I have nearly ½ of the plot dug up. It was easier going than I thought it would be -- the soil is quite loose and a pitchfork is turning it all up with minimal effort. Fennel plants are my nemesis, however. Some of these plants are well-established and the roots.... argh!!!!

The house on the other side of the fence is where I live. Folks who haven't been here in a while will notice the absence of the stucco that the place used to be covered in. The owner restored the cedar siding and repainted it in heritage colours last year. It's quite the improvement. :)

CBC News - Viewpoint: Martin O'Malley

This article by Mr. O'Malley brought to mind a dinner conversation I had a few weeks ago with some friends of mine. Richard asked me who my heroes were. I was absolutely stumped by the question. I could rattle of names of who I could call inspirations, but heroes? As an adult, I haven't thought about heroes in a long time. Sure... as a kid.... but......???

I'm still stumped by this question. Mr. O'Malley's piece is food for thought...

Since Yum got her picture on here I thought I should include one of Freja. :)
